One man's adventures in the physical and intellectual worlds…

Cars. Some people have a fascination with them and are able to identify the make, model and year of production simply from the sound of the engine or by looking at the hood ornament. Others see them as useful (or useless, depending on the vehicle) devices for transporting themselves and others from where they are to somewhere else.

I’d Never Make It As A Navman.

If you’re ever in a hurry to get somewhere – do NOT ask me for directions. In the improbable event that I’m reborn as a piece of technology, Navman will not want to have a bar of me. I try to be helpful, but often find that my internal monologue forces me to complicate my direction-giving by being overly-informative. To everyone’s detriment.

Yesterday while I was waiting for my brother after work, I was approach by a woman who was in a very mild state of puzzlement. Some would say she looked lost. She was seeking the Adoptions Registry Office, which was very close to where I was standing. Unfortunately, her decision to approach me for directions wasn’t the best one she’s ever made. Things went down a little like this:

The Horror!

I’m not a big fan of horror movies. I never really understood the appeal of them. To sit down and purposely scare yourself was an idea that my mind could never really comprehend. Being one who likes to understand things though, I’ve made a number of solid attempts to “get it”.

Where There’s Smoke, There’s Apathy.

I was an involuntary fireman on two occasions last week, both involving rubbish bins. Neither initiated by me. It dismayed me, not because I was the fireman, but because I was far from being the first on the scene.

I hate to sound like a crazy ranter, but I was very disappointed in the atrocious lack of concern that was displayed by the throngs of people who were carrying out their daily business apparently oblivious to the fire that was burning so very close to them. I’ll clarify.

Homage To H – Holla!

This post is the result of a few things. Primarily my quirky brain, but also spawned from a seed planted in another (unpublished) post and only mildly coincidentally connected to the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this week. My mind makes some very curious connections indeed.

This is just me being a little oddly creative. It’s a strange post I’ll admit, but you know the kind of blogger I am. If a bit of wordplay based on a single letter of the alphabet isn’t your thing, feel free to browse my archives instead. I know it’s not for everyone. Happy Friday!

Hallelujah for H!

Hark now! Hear this humble human’s half-baked and heedlessly histrionic homage to the honorable letter ‘H’!

Wordle I Write About Next?

If there’s anything bloggers love more than writing, it’s statistics. Specifically, their blog statistics. I’m what you would call a stat-crazed blogger. I like to know how people are finding me and what they like most about my blog so that I can hopefully continue to entertain my readers. Because you’re what it’s all about to me.

I spent a bit of time playing with my blog and Wordle. I’m still playing, it’s highly likely that there will be subsequent posts about Wordle’s interpretation of my blog. This particular one is based on my current ten most viewed posts.

So let’s see here…

The Things We Do For Love

In Australia today, news was surprisingly slow. Or this one particular story was so amazing that it warranted almost a whole day of dedication from electronic media. You decide.

The Lord Of The Rings – A Dreamer’s Dream Destroyed

Even the Fellowship couldn't save me from this fate worse than death.

In 2001, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was released. In 2002, I was living in Japan, teaching English. What follows here is the harrowing tale of how a movie that I quite thoroughly enjoyed now has me teetering on the brink of insanity and engaged in a viscious battle for enjoyment every time I watch it. Read on – at your own peril. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

I’m pretty sure I have a superpower. It’s a little bit scary and a little bit thrilling.

It seems that I have some kind of power over WordPress.

The strongest evidence of this comes from yesterday’s post. You’ll remember that it was about the fact that there aren’t many blogs about space and time travel and other such sciencey things. Did you also take a moment to check out today’s Freshly Pressed?

To Infinity And Beyond!

It’s probably just me, but have any of you noticed a shortage of blogs about spaceships and/or time travel? Perusing the WordPress blogoverse lately I’ve found plenty of posts about food, family, life, love and all manner of other things but there are very few blogs about space.

Is it just me? Are all the people who think about space, time travel and other associated scientific-esque things not bloggers? Are they blogging but I’m just too ignorant to find their posts? Don’t worry too much about answering those questions; I’m not really concerned. I did search (well, more of a sugar-rush browse really…) and the best I could do was find a few posts about UFOs. Not exactly what I had hoped.
